A Guide to the Fronius Wattpilot?
The Fronius Wattpilot is adaptable to diverse charging needs and designed to be compatible with a wide range of electric vehicle models and is suitable for installation indoors or outdoors sending picture
The Fronius Wattpilot is an intelligent EV charging system for your electric vehicle that provides an extensive range of handy features that offer you the convenience of juicing up your eclectic car’s battery no matter where you are.
Whether you’re lounging around at home or on a road trip, the Fronius Wattpilot (sometimes mistakenly spelled “Fronius Watt Pilot '') stands out as the electric car charger consistently offering the most economical charging options.
The Fronius Wattpilot is adaptable to diverse charging needs and designed to be compatible with a wide range of electric vehicle models, accommodating both single-phase and three-phase power supplies and is suitable for installation indoors or outdoors (though if it’s the latter, do be careful not to install it in direct sunlight).
Beyond its capability to connect to your own photovoltaic (PV) system for recharging using self-generated solar power, the Fronius Wattpilot actively seeks and charges at the most cost-effective rates, especially when paired with variable electricity tariffs.
Solar.wattpilot App
Operating the charger is also extremely straightforward with the Solar.wattpilot app, which provides the convenience of selecting between Eco and Next Trip modes.
Fronius Wattpilot users can easily monitor and control charging sessions through its user-friendly interface, which provides real-time information on charging status, power levels, and duration, all of which you can monitor via the Fronius smartphone app.
Additionally, the Fronius Wattpilot incorporates safety management, load management, and intelligent charging technology, facilitating communication with the grid and the adjustment of charging power according to power supply conditions. This ensures efficient EV charging while minimising the risk of power disruptions.
It truly is the EV charger of the future!
How does the Fronius Wattpilot work?
The electric car charging solution that always provides the cheapest charging
Available in both 11 kW and 22 kW power categories, the Fronius Wattpilot comes in two versions:
- Home, a fixed charger designed for domestic use, and
- Go (such as the Fronius Wattpilot Go 22 J), which is a more portable solution ideal for charging while travelling.
Both models offer sustainable charging with solar power or green electricity that’s directly from the grid. And you won’t have to worry about your Fronius Wattpilot becoming redundant either, as not only does it offer customisable options, but it also allows for upgrades with new features and functionalities as they become available.
The Fronius Watt Pilot is cleverly designed to harness surplus solar energy directly from the solar panels and into your car’s batteries. This standout feature is particularly beneficial, as under normal circumstances, this surplus solar energy would be exported to the grid, where it is of little use to.
Conversely, the Fronius Wattpilot puts that excess energy to work, enabling you to harness that power for your electric vehicle. And if you’re driving in overcast conditions, the charger can dynamically adjust its performance to keep in accordance with its atmosphere by ramping the juice up and down as required.
Once you’re back at home, simply plug your car back in and keep it in charge like you would a vacuum cleaner or any other household device. Keeping it charged while your car is not in use is an effective way to draw in solar energy directly from the panels instead of relying on grid-based power and incurring additional costs.
Regardless of how big or small your system is, you can install a Fronius Smart Meter which will provide you with handy real time consumption monitoring capabilities, granting you a comprehensive understanding of your home's energy usage as it happens.
You can also tap into optimal power distribution though the Dynamic Load Balancing feature. Dynamic Load Balancing offers an efficient usage of self-generated solar power from any photovoltaic system. This innovative system allows people to charge up to three electric cars simultaneously using a single system. It takes into consideration both the energy produced by the photovoltaic system and average household consumption, resulting in significant savings on connection costs and the effective prevention of load peaks. The required energy is precisely controlled and dynamically distributed among the vehicles being charged, providing a streamlined and efficient charging experience.

Fronius Wattpilot FAQs
How many watts is a car charger?
Electric cars charged at home generally use about 7,200 watts (W) of electricity, and this can vary depending on the mode and home charger. Most electric car chargers for home use operate within the range of 32 to 40 amps, connecting to a standard 240-volt outlet in your home's breaker box. This Level 2 charging setup is common for residential use, providing an efficient and practical means to recharge electric vehicles. The power consumption mentioned aligns with the specifications of Level 2 chargers, allowing for a balance between charging speed and practicality in a home setting.
Where can I purchase a Fronius Wattpilot charger in Melbourne?
The Fronius car charger can be purchased directly here. The Fronius charger is available in both an 11-kilowatt and a 22-kilowatt model. The 22-kilowatt version is suitable for homes with three-phase power, while the 11-kilowatt model is designed for single-phase power. If you’re the type of person who’s on the road more than you’re home, you may be interested to know that Fronius has recently introduced a portable option — the Fronius Wattpilot Go 22 J — for those who need to charge their car while on an extended journey.
Is the Fronius Wattpilot charger suitable for my electric vehicle, and how do I determine compatibility?
The Fronius Wattpilot has been designed to be compatible with any electric vehicle. Its type 2 socket enables the charging of vehicles with a type 1 connection—simply use the suitable charging lead for the specific vehicle.
Are there any maintenance requirements for a Fronius Wattpilot charger?
Not really! The Fronius Wattpilot is effectively maintenance free; there are no regular checks required, so there should be zero need for recurring maintenance. Just don’t go out of your way to break it.
What are the warranty conditions for the Wattpilot?
The warranty term for the Wattpilot is a standard 2 years.
Is it possible to use several Wattpilots in one system?
You certainly can; you can even operate multiple Wattpilots simultaneously. Each Wattpilot needs to be integrated into the network individually. However, it's important to note that PV optimization functions exclusively on a single device at a time.
